The Storm Series - 2023
Storm Drawings (In Progress)
Storm Drawings is an ongoing series that seeks to capture the intensity, dynamism, and atmosphere of storms as they unfold around us. Rather than focusing solely on their visual form, these works are an exploration of how storms feel—their shifting energy, their sense of unpredictability, and the way they envelop both land and body in their presence.
The inspiration for this series comes from my years of travel across the United States between 2017 and 2020, just before the pandemic. Countless miles on the road brought me into direct encounter with storms of every kind—towering thunderheads, sheets of rain, wind-driven tempests, and the fleeting, electric stillness that often precedes them. Each experience left a strong impression of both vulnerability and awe, which now finds expression in the mark-making and layered gestures of these drawings.
Still in process, Storm Drawings is a body of work I plan to return to and deepen during the coming winter. The series continues to evolve as I experiment with ways to translate motion, pressure, and atmosphere into line, texture, and composition—seeking to render the emotional reality of storms as much as their physical presence.
